I've often had the exact same thought/revelation. Everyone of my closest (and Life-Long) friends, including my Wife, I have because I skateboard.
I wrote a introspective entrance exam titled "Seven-Ply Destiny Maker" about this very topic, a few years back.

So glad we still think alike.

Incredible image. I remember those breathtaking days. I also remember your hopeful humility, gentle kindness and authenticity...and it was good to see that those qualities were still there Sunday and served your lovely family well in the recent past. I hope that whatever pained you all is now a memory.
Great blog and great to see you're following your dream—never an easy thing to do...but then, success lies in seeing the challenges eye to eye, regardless of the outcome.

Thanks Chuck for sharing this rare footage! Brings back some great memories. I still have a handful of pictures, but have never come across any raw video. I remember when we first learned the pool's exact location. It was the summer of '89, after a heavy session at Val's ramp in Mission Viejo, skating with Val, Dean, and the Alva Posse, when my best friend Dean and I were let in on the secret dual-deep end pool up on the hill in San Juan.

But the pool's location came with two seriously-stated requirements. First, don't tell anyone else where it is (standard-issue for such a quality spot). And second, never... ever... ever... call or refer to the pool as "The Nissan Pool". This was a careless slip-up made previously by a small handful of young guns, punishable by banishment. The give-away name referred to the Nissan dealership that sat just down the hill from the pool... clearly visible to everyone and anyone driving south on the 5 frwy towards Dana Point.

Instead, we were told to always call it "Tonan Pool" in due respect to Tonan, the Alva vet who first shared of its existence with TA and the rest of the Alva Posse. Based on goose's comment, it looks like Tonan picked one hell of a good spot to take a piss!

the best pool ever! did you ever hear Dennis Fingers story about it? apparently he found the pool next door. it was a horrible barely skateable square bowl. he and a couple of his friends skated that one for almost a YEAR! before somebody went through a fence to pee, and discovered this bowl here. the rest is history!

Life is like skateboarding, if you try to learn new tricks you'll have a lot more bails, but if you take the time to practice new tricks you'll still bail...just not as much if you tried to rush a trick. So all in all, take time to live life with ease and just let everything flow, because if you try to speed through life you will get hurt, physically, emotionally, and mentally.
